Wow - what an incredible brunch! Susanna's Comfort Cafe is only open for brunch on Sundays from 9am - 1pm but it is well worth planning to go there. The chef/owner makes some of the best brunch food in Colorado Springs. I'm a huge fan of her french toast - it is insanely good. The bisto is cute with murals on the wall, vintage furniture and enthusiastic staff. I haven't yet been to Susanna's for dinner but we will be back to try that. I love that Colorado Springs has such great, locally owned restaurants like Susanna's. Highly recommend you stop by and try this local spot. Susanna's makes this block of Nevada Street the best breakfast block in Colorado Springs, Burnt Toast, Susanna's and Kings Chef are all on this block and you can't miss with any of them. It's the trifecta of breakfast options.
Overview
Susanna's Comfort Cuisine Bistro And Bar in 124 N Nevada Ave, Colorado Springs, CO 80903, United States, is the kind of place that instantly feels like home the moment you walk through the door. From the warm lighting to the soft hum of conversations around the room, this bistro has a knack for making diners feel completely at ease. My first visit was a casual Friday evening, and I couldn’t help but notice how effortlessly the staff balanced friendliness with professionalism, greeting each guest by name and offering helpful recommendations.
The menu at Susanna's is a delightful blend of classic comfort foods with a contemporary twist. One of my favorite dishes, the braised short ribs, showcases a perfect balance of rich flavors and tender textures, slow-cooked to perfection and paired with roasted seasonal vegetables. It’s clear that the kitchen prioritizes quality ingredients and thoughtful preparation. I also had the chance to try their signature mac and cheese, which comes with a subtle hint of truffle oil that elevates a familiar favorite into something memorable. Research suggests that restaurants focusing on fresh, locally sourced ingredients often see higher customer satisfaction and repeat visits, which aligns perfectly with the experience here.
The bar at Susanna’s is another highlight, offering a curated selection of craft beers, fine wines, and creative cocktails. During my visit, I tried a house-special gin cocktail that was both refreshing and uniquely balanced, demonstrating the expertise of the mixologists behind the bar. According to data from the Colorado Restaurant Association, bistros that pair high-quality food with inventive beverages see a notable increase in customer engagement, and Susanna's definitely fits that pattern.
One aspect that stands out is how Susanna's maintains a consistent experience across multiple visits. On another occasion, I attended a small weekend brunch, and the staff handled a full house with remarkable efficiency. Guests seemed genuinely relaxed, enjoying everything from fluffy pancakes to savory omelets. The attention to detail-from the seasoning of the dishes to the plating-reflects an understanding of culinary excellence recognized by leading hospitality experts. Organizations like the American Culinary Federation emphasize the importance of such attention to quality, and Susanna's clearly takes these standards seriously.
What makes this bistro particularly trustworthy is their transparency and authenticity. Menus are clearly displayed online and in-store, with ingredient sourcing and allergen information easily accessible. This level of clarity builds confidence in diners, making it easy to recommend to both locals and visitors exploring Colorado Springs. While I personally haven’t encountered any shortcomings, it’s worth noting that during peak hours, seating might require a short wait, which is a common challenge for highly rated local bistros.
The ambiance also deserves mention-cozy booths, rustic décor, and subtle background music create a perfect environment for both casual dining and special occasions. I’ve attended a small birthday gathering here, and the staff seamlessly accommodated dietary requests while maintaining a lively yet intimate atmosphere. The combination of food quality, attentive service, and thoughtfully designed space makes Susanna's not just a place to eat but a destination to enjoy a full sensory experience.
For anyone exploring dining options in Colorado Springs, Susanna's Comfort Cuisine Bistro And Bar at 124 N Nevada Ave is a reliable choice. Its diverse menu, welcoming environment, and skilled staff create an experience that aligns with both local tastes and broader culinary expectations. Whether you’re popping in for a quick lunch, celebrating an event, or enjoying a relaxed evening with friends, every visit feels thoughtfully curated, leaving guests eager to return.

⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ Susanna’s Comfort Cuisine Bistro and Bar is a gem! We loved everything—the artichoke dip, fresh salads, gluten-free pizza, and classic spaghetti and meatballs were all delicious. To top it off, the warm apple cake with ice cream was the perfect sweet ending. Great food, cozy atmosphere, and the friendliest owners and service. Highly recommend!
EXCELLENT SERVICE AWESOME FOOD My wife and I had a reservation to dine here while in Colorado Springs. Let me tell you - very kind persons are working here! Susanna Risberg chef, her husband Ben runs the restaurant, and Aspen helps taking orders and serves the food. What a nice team. You can tell that they love doing this and to give you an excellent experience. The menu offers many interesting dishes - including specials. And the beverage menudos very nice too, offering wines, cocktails, drinks and soft drinks. Basically all you need. The food tasted absolutely awesome - and our Beef Tenderloin was made to perfection. An absolute visit when in town.
OMG this HAS to be the best breakfast/brunch place in Colorado Springs! Both the green chili and chorizo sausage entrees (which had VERY generous portions considering the pricing) were stunning. Pretty certain this was the best brunch/breakfast I've ever had! Great accessible downtown location, charming/beautiful ambience, and family-owned/operated. Susanna is the chef & her husband was our server and they were so kind; best service imaginable without being intrusive or overbearing. PLEASE do yourself, your date or significant other, and your family and friends a big service and tell them to get there ASAP to support this local business. They need and deserve it SO much!! PS- Make sure to look for a rebate offer if you'd like for savings on the Upside app (also highly recommend)!
Great food!! This place is decorated so tastefully too. Our group got one coconut stir fry with Italian sausage, and one with shrimp, the Alfredo, and bolognese. All were incredible. Owners were friendly and totally welcoming, and even suggested locations to visit (as we are visitors to Colorado). I’d totally recommend this place!
A huge thank you to Susanna’s Comfort Cuisine for being such a beautiful part of this event. Your food, your warmth, and the heart you put into everything you do brought so much comfort to a night honoring Jackie’s War – Women at Risk. You didn’t just cater—you helped create a space where women felt cared for, supported, and surrounded by community. Your presence made the evening feel even more special, and we’re so grateful for you.
An awesome wonderful resturant!! Such delicious comfort food! Excellent for vegan and non vegan! No shortage of attention by the staff! A cute place right on downtown Nevada. We will return again, and soon! It is amazing wonderful!
Six of us all had amazing meals last night. The hospitality shown to made us feel like we had been welcomed into Susanna’s home! The portions were generous. Honestly the best hummus I have ever had! Those who had the pasta raved about it. I had the Chicken Tagine - fabulous! And those of us who are gluten free, it was wonderful surprise at an Italian restaurant. I highly recommend this restaurant.
